Canon Point: end of the New Blood comic series

Arrival Scenario: The Free Cities

Suitability: Cassidy has both worked alone as a vigilante and alongside others as first a gang co-leader and then part of the black ops division of Overwatch. After Overwatch's fall, he headed off on his own to do some bounty hunting and right some wrongs, so he was always willing to step in and help if there was need. When the Overwatch recall was initiated, he at first resisted answering the call, but when summoned by Ana, he realized that the world was stepping in a direction he didn't like and he decided to step into the role of leader. In his time he's experienced pain and loss. At some point he lost his left arm, he narrowly escaped an explosion, and he witnessed his mentor murder someone in cold blood instead of taking him in to go on trial to name a few. Where he falls on this worlds politics remains to be seen, but he'll definitely be engaging in on the ground info gathering and perhaps less than legal activities.

Powers: His cybernetic arm is stronger than human strength and has been shown to be able to crush metal. Anything else (black ops training, sharpshooting) I would gauge as human level and a result of intense training.

PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them.
During an important Blackwatch mission to Venice in order to capture the man responsible for ordering an explosion at an Overwatch facility, Cassidy's mentor Gabriel Reyes made the snap decision to murder the man instead of bring him in for a trial. The man, Antonio, was a rich and powerful figure who laughed in the face of his arrest, saying his friends would have him out of custody within the week. Agreeing that this was probably the case with the way the rich were given an unfair advantage, Gabriel made the call to be judge, jury, and executioner in one. As he raised his gun to fire, Cassidy had no time to react or protest before the deed was done, and his worldview was shaken. He had been well trained by Gabriel and had trusted him, but now his faith in the man was shattered and he couldn't look at him the same way anymore. Their colleagues on the mission (Moira and Genji) were more hardened figures and agreed with Gabriel's choice, leaving Cassidy as the outnumbered moral compass of the group. They had to flee Venice in a hail of bullet fire as Antonio's Talon agents tried to enact revenge, with Cassidy berating Gabriel the whole time. Had they captured Antonio, they could have easily escaped before anyone realized what was happening, but getting shot out a window meant everyone knew what had happened and the four barely escaped with their lives. And with such a loud display happening on the streets, Blackwatch was exposed as Overwatch's secret black ops division, ruining the organization's reputation. Reflecting on it later, Cassidy wondered if this was the start of Overwatch's downfall.

Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by?
He believes in exacting justice against those who have done wrong while also understanding that circumstances skew what's right and wrong. It's implied that he was orphaned by the Omnic Crisis and while bouncing around on his own as a teen he ended up on the wrong side of the law at times. He believes in giving everyone a fair chance and even a second chance if he can sense that they want to change.

What quality or qualities do they admire most?
Good aim, a willingness to step up and protect others, being a leader, those who look past appearances. These are all things he tries to do himself and while he's got the aim part down, it took time for him to settle into the role of leader. He also knows he looks scruffy and like he's bad news, so he appreciates those who don't treat him like a criminal and affords them the same.

Do they have a part of themselves they dislike?
He's more at peace with himself than he once was. He used to use fake names because he was ashamed of who he was and tried to bury it deep down. A teenager with no home, no people, nothing. Then he found Ashe and formed a gang with her and finally felt like he had a family. Then he was recruited into Overwatch and found a cause to fight for. Now he's using his real name again and accepting that where he is today is because of where he's been.

What is their sign, and why?
The Hanged Man. This represents his years spent alone traveling the world in search of fulfilment or justice to serve. People saw him as an outlaw and criminal because they would misread the situation after he'd pulled out his gun to defend others or destroyed property to stop a theft. He's ready and willing to be part of a group again, but he can also survive on his own just fine.

[ With a flick of his wrist, Cassidy tosses his cigar into a nearby puddle formed by the recent downpour and tips the brim of his hat down a little more. He's sure if someone else from Overwatch was here they'd chastise him about polluting the Earth they're trying to save, but he thinks there are bigger problems at hand here. Intel says that Null Sector has secretly taken possession of a defunct Omnium to start up production of soldiers once more and all he needs to do is a little recon to see if that's true before he reports back. There had been a lot of back and forth about who should take on this dangerous mission and finally he'd had to pull his Blackwatch card to get things settled. He knows how to get in and out of a place with ease. He's got this.

Or at least he hopes he's got this. The locals don't seem too friendly and he's deep into an omnic neighborhood. If any of them happen to sympathize with Null Sector it could be lights out for him. So since it's after dark and unfamiliar territory he's doing the whole "drunk human took a wrong turn act" to throw them off and let them think he's not purposefully headed towards the Omnium. It takes several more streets before he finally finds a way up onto a nearby roof. From here he can scope out the factory and see if anything suspicious is taking place. If there are new troops being manufactured, then they could be unleashed at any time — probably starting with this city — so the sooner he finds out the truth, the better.

Cassidy hunkers down behind an air conditioning unit on the roof as he gazes out at the city at night. Little dots of light are sprinkled all over like stars and the sounds of car horns and foot traffic are nothing more than a dull hum up here. It's peaceful, if only for a moment, because he's suddenly aware that he's not alone. He can't see anyone, but he hears the distinct sound of hair brush against fabric. Not Null Sector, then, but who else would be up here at night? He takes a guess what side the person is coming from and rolls from one side of his cover to another as he takes his gun from its holster. ]

Evening.

[ He says it conversationally. Old Blackwatch tactic: always act like you're three steps ahead even if you're one behind. ]
